There are many legends about the origin and past of the Birman, which also called the Sacred Cat of Burma, because Buddha priests supposedly kept them in their temples as holy cats. Today, however, it undisputed that the Birmans were bred for the first time in France in the 1920s and the French gave the exotic-sounding name of sacre de Birmanie.

The Birman's signature trait is short white gloves on the front paws and longer ones on the back paws. The Birman's coat is similar to that of the Colourpoint.

Behavioural traits[]

This cat is a lovely housemate, they are gentle, devoted and affection. However, they are not a particularly good cats for families with small children, since they do not deal well with children's responses to cats and misunderstandings between the cats and children arise easily.
